Debate Challenge: New Year's Resolutions - Worthwhile challenge, or fast track to disappointment?
Instructor outlined some basic debate skills and guidelines for students in this exercise which includes an academic and social dimensions overlap. Students acted out a debate scene using both social and academic language skills. Students debated the two points of our topic while visualizing themselves among people they are comfortable with, as well as people they are not comfortable with, such as in a job or professional setting. They took a minute to outline their thoughts on each side of the topic before debating. Class discussed the differences between each conversation settings after each debate to help strengthen their language comprehension skills.
